Civilsphere is dedicated to help people at risk from targeted digital threats

The Civilsphere project was born in 2018 the Stratosphere Laboratory of the Czech Technical University in Prague. In Civilsphere we believe that NGOs' work, as well the work of journalists, activists, and human rights defenders is a critical asset for our society and we need to protect them. It is their critical work that makes them a highly valuable political target for a wide variety of powerful actors. They receive a continuous flow of attacks and technical abuse the jeopardizes the liberty and free expression in many countries. At Civilsphere we took a step forward to help them by providing free, advanced digital protection against state actors and others.

Our mission is to provide journalists, activists, and human rights defendants services and tools to early identify digital threats jeopardizing their life and work.

Emergency VPN

The Emergency VPN is a service that provides a free security assessment of your phone’s network traffic to determine if your phone is infected, under attack, or compromised. Once you connect to the Emergency VPN, our team will capture the network traffic generated from the device for a maximum of three (3) days. Expert analysts will thoroughly analyze the data received and determine if your phone is infected, or if there are any threats that you should be aware of. You control when to connect and how much time you stay connected. LEARN MORE.

SHOULD I CLICK

“Should I Click” is a web service that can help you decide if you should click on a suspicious link or not. It uses machine learning systems that were trained with thousands of real attack pages. To use it, you only put the link on the web page of “Should I Click” and it will let you know how safe it is to click on it. Moreover, it will tell you why it is not safe and it will allow you to give feedback. This service was born with the aim of protecting the civil society, journalists, activists, and people at risk from targeted attacks. LEARN MORE.

CHECK SUSPICIOUS EMAIL SERVICE

Spear phishing attacks are one of the most effective ways of compromising a target. Attackers may craft emails that look like real legitimate emails. Even security professionals sometimes find hard to distinguish a real email from an email crafted by attackers. Our service allows anyone at risk to send us a copy of the suspicious email, and our team will check very fast if the email was an attack or not. LEARN MORE.

For NGOs we provide a cloud-based service where we run our machine learning algorithms to remotely detect the malicious behaviors of infected computers in the NGO’s network. The organizations should only install a small software on their networks to send the flows to analyze. These flows only contain metadata and are highly protected by the Czech Technical University in Prague by signing Non Disclosure Agreements (NDA). LEARN MORE.
